The Dragon Shifter’s Mates Series by Eva Chase
Author: Eva Chase
Genre: Romantasy (Romance, Fantasy)
Publication Date: March 2021
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (Out of 5) (3/5 stars)
Introduction
This series was recommended to me when I had mentioned to a friend that I was in a bit of a slump with reading. We bought our dream house, so packing and stressing out have been my focuses… which meant I needed a great escape. Insert this series, something that I truly didn’t expect to like, but devoured in 3 days. The whole series. All of it, every page. Gobbled it up.
The main theme of this book is taking things in stride, trusting your gut, and loving those who are hard to love. I really enjoyed the way Eva Chase made each character likable in their own ways, but each needing slight redemption as time goes on. It made it feel like each character was perfectly flawed, and added a lot of depth to the story.
Synopsis
In this series, we find a young, truly abandoned woman sitting in a bar on her birthday, and that’s where the normalcy ends. She is quickly drug into a world that she, and everyone else, didn’t know existed. Not only that, but SHE is the center of this entire other world, culture, and society. She is faced with an interesting conflict… she is destined to be the mate of all four Alpha leaders. Each leader can shape shift into a different shape, and they all have been waiting their whole lives just for her. The romance is hot and heavy, the plot is fast paced and interesting, and watching each character come into their own was truly fun to read.
Review
Writing Style
This series’ writing style is honestly pretty straightforward, which was nice. I liked how quickly I was able to get through the books with JUST enough descriptions to give me an idea of setting and conflict and inner thoughts without being cumbersome. It’s straight to the point and ooooh, mama liked that.
The author’s tone is light and cheerful, even during the darkest times because all throughout the series, no matter the conflict, the overarching theme of “love” is present throughout. The way love is fit into everything made it feel a lot like when you have butterflies over a new love interest to the point where even the bad things don’t feel SO bad.
Plot
This series is a really fast read! Like I said before, I finished the whole series in just a few days!
This series contains multiple conflicts and battles, but I didn’t really feel like there were major cliffhangers or twists. The story wasn’t totally predictable by any means, but it wasn’t as intricately woven as, say, Fourth Wing.
Characters
What I like about this series is that each character shows growth and change throughout. It would have been really boring without the flaws of man, and for me it was just enough conflict within the characters, themselves, to keep me going.
Themes and Messages
Deeper themes for me included: Facing your fears, taking the leap, and saying what you mean with your full chest.
Emotional Impact
I was kicking my little feets through most of this. I will warn you, this series is TRULY spicy. It does involve multiple partners at the same time, so if that’s not your thing… neither is this series. I am able to sit and appreciate the relationships for what they are, although they are very different than my marriage, and found it interesting to see the dynamics of a multi-partner relationship. Keep in mind that most human men on THIS planet (Earth) will not be as chill about things as these male characters are, but hey! That’s why it’s fantasy! Haha.
Pros and Cons
Pros
Very quick, escapism type read, interesting story and plot, spicy.
Cons
Not terribly descriptive, beginning is a very “well that was fast” feeling.
Overall Thoughts
I have totally recommended this book to friends who enjoy a quick little escape and don’t have time for a series like ACOTAR or Fourth Wing but want action and spice. It’s a good time, really.
Your Thoughts
